Recent insights have revealed that our sewage treatment plants cannot handle these drugs. Consequently, they end up in our rivers, leading to potential environmental harm.For Sedgwick County residents, the good news is there’s a solution. Simply drop off your medications at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 801 Stillwell in Wichita. Not only does this service come at no cost to you, but it also spares our environment any further damage. The facility is conveniently open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Please note that narcotics or strong pain relievers such as morphine or Lortab are not accepted.For those unable to access this facility, consider the following method: Dissolve the medications in a liquid, mix the solution with either kitty litter or coffee grounds, place the mixture in a sealed, unmarked container, and discard it with your regular trash.
